A luxury vacation cabin on foot of dramatic, snow-capped mountains regarding shore of a serene and tranquil pond. Exactly what more might you desire in a calming end of the week?
Errrm….maybe a hot spa?
Peaceful walking tracks through woodlands and past trickling channels?
Your favourite takeaways like pizza or curry brought to your home?
Yea….that appears decent too!
This was what we got during our stick to Forest vacations in Ardgartan Argyll in Scotland.
We visited in February with Sam, our two males, George and Joseph, and our dog, Louie.
It had been those types of uncommon, relaxing weekends performing a lot of nothing and now we liked it.
We spent our days cooking and baking, watching Disney movies, building Lego towers, walking canine, drinking enormous mugs of hot chocolate with marshmallows drifting on top, viewing the sun’s rays set behind the mountains, going for drives in the car along pretty roadways mainly because it seemed so beautiful, splashing in hot tub until we considered prunes and consuming Prosecco on deck of our cabin when the young ones had opted to bed.
It was most of the normal week-end material we could do at home but never do.
Whenever you’re in the home you will find chores and jobs and folks to see and places to get therefore much to do that these lovely relaxing week-end activities never happen.
Forest Holidays offer luxurious log cabins in nine places in britain in Forestry Commission woodland. There are a few different cabins to pick from, sleeping between 2 and 10 individuals, nevertheless they all have a similar feel. They’re spacious and homey, easy however with some luxury to ensure it’s a cushty stay. The woodland cabins are the spot to relax and charge together with your loved ones, whether that’s several friends, your loved ones or your partner for romantic escape.
The cabins tend to be more luxurious than glamping but they have a similar ‘back to nature’ kind of vibe. This is the type of spot where you want to pack your wellies and your bobble caps since it’s about the forest walks, bicycle rides, canoeing and horse riding. Or just soaking in your hot tub with a bottle of bubbles!
It was our 2nd time staying with Forest Holidays. In 2015 we remained at Sherwood Forest through the summer plus it had been a very different experience. Our very first journey had been all sunshine and flowers and ice creams and BBQs but this was all cosy blankets and steamy hot tubs.
I thought I’d choose the summer experience with Forest vacations but We honestly didn’t. These people were either lovely week-end breaks and thus different you mightn’t compare the 2. I actually do think the spa caused it to be more unique for the cold temperatures break. It had been magical sitting in the steaming bathtub with snow gently dropping all around us.
Forest Holidays is a good saturday and sunday if you’re travelling with children. The luxury cabins are spacious and be a straightforward home-from-home for little ones. The kitchens are fully prepared and possess everything required. There are lots of activities for the young ones too. They are able to run wild through the forest or join a Forest Ranger for guided nature walk. Larger children can take a woodland success course or perhaps you can uncover the woodland when the sun goes down having a ranger. And you may also take your dog therefore the whole family is included!
Basically had to pick a favourite location between Forest vacations in Ardgartan Argyll in Scotland and Sherwood Forest, I’d probably pick Sherwood Forest. Sherwood Forest had been more ‘in the woodland’ so it had a more magical feel. I loved experiencing like we had been into the depths associated with forests. The Ardgartan location is alongside a loch which can be similarly magical but, for me, the woodland victories.
In the event that you can’t decide which Forest Holidays location to go to I’d simply suggest visiting the one closest to home. Once you get to your cabin you feel a million kilometers from anywhere, even when you’re just one hour from home. If you’re enjoying a whole week then you may wish to get further at home because you’re got longer to explore the area. But if you’re going for a week-end you’ll most likely scarcely keep your cabin together with forest therefore save the drive!
Massive thanks to Forest Holidays for hosting our stay.

Did you see yesterday’s post about winning a Google Pixel Phone from EE? To celebrate EE’s recent announcement that all existing EE mobile pay monthly and pay as you go mobile customers can take their UK allowance abroad to 48 European destinations, they’ve given me a Pixel Phone by Google, featuring an amazing camera. So…
Sam and I also are both firm believers that your life doesn’t need to alter when you’ve got children. Naturally, it will change plenty (for both the better while the worse!) you don’t must alter as being a person and also you don’t should stop doing the things you like.
One thing Sam and I also have constantly loved will probably festivals.
Since we went along to Leeds Festival in the past in 2004 we’ve been hooked (wow, which makes me seem REALLY old).
Since we have George and Joseph we can’t wait to start out planning to festivals with the young ones. We’re perhaps not gonna any this present year once we don’t want to camp until Joseph is resting slightly better. (He nevertheless wakes up once or twice every evening which child includes a strong pair of lungs on him so we’re planning to wait until he won’t get up the complete campsite together with his howls.)
But next summer time we’ve a few family friendly festivals on our wishlist…
Camp Bestival is set into the grounds of Lulworth Castle in Dorset plus they have activities for all from age 2 to 62! They’ve got areas for little young ones and big children, a toddler area as well as the pioneering Breastival Mother and Baby relax area for anybody who does take their baba! This year you’ll find the Insect Circus, Art Town where paint and glitter was the order for the day, the Kids’ Catwalk, fairground trips, facepainting plus smooth Play Tent and Sandpit
It’s additionally awesome they have a teenager’s area for 13-17 year olds.
Not to be confused with Burning guy Festival (which really doesn’t be seemingly family friendly event at all!) Green guy Festival into the Brecon Beacons is a event surrounded by hills, woodlands, waterfalls and streams. Exactly how idyllic!
There’s a ‘Little Folk’ area ‘packed with colourful creations and tree-swinging tykes’.
Blissfields Festival is the bizarre and it has a whole lineup of functions for children in the Angel Gardens. The dry paint battle and the Unicorn, Fox and Hare Lantern Parade sound like they are often the highlights in 2010!
We additionally love that Blissfields Festival provides a school leave of absence page for the kid’s school to describe just how academic the event are going to be.
I’ve gone to Festival Number 6 several times now and discovered it to be that family members friendly event. Set in the magical village of Portmeirion in Wales, this can be a gorgeous event. There are loads of children there and as it’s a ‘premium festival’ (basically, actually expensive so you don’t get any knobheads there!) and that means you don’t have that drunken vibe you have at most of the festivals.
In 2010 they’ve introduced the small Big Top Kid’s Cove for under 11’s.
The Big Feastival is all about music, food and household fun and is set on Alex James’ farm in Cotswolds (yes, that’s the bassist from Blur). There’s a fantastic music line-up but meals is the celebrity attraction right here. For the children, there’s guest appearances from Justin Fletcher, Dick and Dom and Paw Patrol. George would absolutely lose his head if Justin and Marshall were in identical room together!
Blue Dot festival is held in Jordrell Bank in Cheshire. It’s a geeky festival having a great line-up and ‘Family Encounters’ area guarantees the tiny ones are entertained. I think that one is more for older kids as there’s many learning how to be done while they learn how to fly and learn to harness the effectiveness of the wind.
Car-Fest is another Cheshire event held for Children in Need therefore assembled by Chris Evans. Now don’t allow the name place you down. Sam is wanting to convince me to go to this for a long time but I’d assumed it was a vehicle event therefore dismissed it immediately. Nonetheless it’s a lot more than simply cars and it is a magical mix of food, music, activity, the world’s biggest custard cake fight, plenty of family enjoyable and…yea..some cars too.
Which family friendly festivals do you want to see?
Porto was recently voted the best European destination for 2017 by travel experts from around the world. And having spent a weekend there last month it’s easy to see why. Porto is a delightful, small city filled with stunning architecture, a thriving foodie scene, beautiful bridges spanning the great Douro river and plenty of art…

Primarily house to luxury resorts and mega mansions, among the best approaches to explore these islands is via a yacht trip.
#7. To see the flourishing art scene
it would likely come as being a surprise to learn that Dubai houses a burgeoning art scene, and it has also been labelled once the Modern Art money of Middle East. Elle has just came back from the amazing trip to Ca. She shares the woman guide to Newport Beach alongside numerous gorgeous reasons why you should go to!
If you were a fan of the noughties teenager drama series The O.C., you’ve most likely been aware of Newport Beach. But chances are, all you’ll learn about the location is its angsty fictional inhabitants.
The great news is, even though the T.V. show The O.C. is well and truly over, Newport Beach is well and truly rising as destination to check out for an memorable holiday. And there’s a lot more to it than senior school drama.
With one of the best film festivals in the nation, stunning scenery and that coveted year-round California sunshine, Newport Beach is slightly French Riviera plus tiny bit L.A. glam, with a hearty dosage of laid-back beach vibes thrown into the mix.
Newport Beach is an easy task to reach from U.K., and contains everything you could desire from a summer vacation location, from the picturesque marina to wide, sweeping, golden-sand beaches, world-class meals, occasions visited by individuals from all over the world and nearly guaranteed in full sunshine.
Interested? You need to be. Here’s all you need to understand for unforgettable go to within my guide to Newport Beach.
Dealing with Newport Beach
There are numerous of direct routes from London to la every day for a number of air companies.
I flew with United states Airlines, and I also ended up being surprised by how comfortable and roomy the economy seats were. Plus, they’ve USB chargers and complete power outlets in most chair, making working while travelling (or simply viewing movies on your own iPad) a total breeze!
Once you land in LAX, it is about an hour’s drive (based on traffic) to Newport Beach.
Travel Hack Tip: Don’t keep the U.K. without trying to get your ESTA to enter the USA.
Where to remain in Newport Beach
Hyatt Regency Newport Beach
This 4-star resort is good for families, groups, or anybody looking for a laid-back, centrally-located spot to stay static in Newport Beach.
There’s a greens, gym, three swimming pools and hot tubs, a good bar with outside sitting as well as a giant chess board on site. The rooms are huge (especially by European standards) and have giant screen TVs and free bottled water, that will be important into the California temperature.
As well as the location in fact is unbeatable – it is merely a mile in one single way to Fashion Island, plus mile others method to Balboa Island Ferry. Therefore whether you’re in town for shopping or surf, you’re near both at Hyatt Regency Newport Beach.
Resort at Pelican Hill
Probably the most luxurious accommodation in Newport Beach, Pelican Hill is an excellent choice for an intimate getaway.
It’s perched on a hill overlooking the ocean, and features an incredibly Instagrammable circular infinity pool, a golf club, spa, and Camp Pelican, where you are able to drop the small ones down when you get explore the good thing about Crystal Cove coastline and/or places of Newport Beach.
If you’re buying unique local experience, visit Airbnb to find a unique neighborhood house.
One of the more memorable listings in Newport Beach is this 30 base sailboat, located appropriate in Newport Harbor. The space is small, nevertheless the views are the best – especially those sunsets!
Leasing a motor vehicle from LAX is the most convenient solution to reach and around Newport Beach, but if you’d instead perhaps not drive then Uber or Lyft are the most useful methods for getting around.
Not merely is Uber cheap (because everything in Newport Beach is really close together), the drivers are unbelievably friendly!
Where you can drink and eat
You can find many incredible eateries in Newport Beach, from world-famous Nobu to beach shacks serving tasty casual bites.
Right here were among the better places I ate during my remain in Newport Beach:
Honor Coffee Roasters
A hipster café serving genuine coffee (maybe not the dubious drip coffee served in a lot of places), including a refreshing cool brew.
The decoration is stunning, with lots of hexagonal white tiles, dark wood and brass fixtures.
Will there be such a thing much better than brunch regarding water?
Zinqué could be the perfect spot for the healthier but delicious brunch (order le dish with ahi tuna, it’s amazing) as you’re watching water lapping contrary to the luxury yachts in harbour.
It’s casual, trendy and completely found in the Lido Marina Village for the spot of post-meal boutique shopping.
Lighthouse Bayview Café
Found on Balboa Peninsula, this lighthouse-shaped restaurant is bright and airy, serving hearty brunches (don’t skip the lighter-than-air beignets) on beach.
If you’re a bloody mary fan, decide to try the Buddy’s Bloody, an oversized mason jar break fast cocktail called following a larger-than-life regional lifeguard.
Once you spot a beachside concession stand, you assume the meals will soon be dubious at most useful – dry hot dogs, oily burgers and floppy potato chips.
Not so at Tackle Box! Here the food is restaurant-quality, but with the casual vibes of road meals.
Don’t leave without trying the coastline corn – a grilled ear of sweet corn smothered in lime, seasoning and cotija cheese (i did son’t understand what it absolutely was either, but trust in me once I state you will need this in your lifetime).
Ruby’s is available from coast to coast, but this 1 may be the original.
Stroll to Balboa Pier, grab a retro, cherry-topped milkshake and take in the waves and sand surrounding you.
Forget any preconception you’ve got about American dining and book a table at Provenance for the unforgettable meal.
Executive chef and owner Cathy Pavlos can be an architect-turned-professor-turned-dishwasher-turned-creator of incredible meals at Provenance.
The mouthwateringly fresh menu is prompted partly by the farmhouses of this Napa Valley, as well as in part by the edible kitchen yard that provides a sensational backdrop for the meal.
Don’t be fooled by the quite nondescript exterior of A Restaurant.
Action in, offer your eyes a couple of moments to modify, and you’ll be greeted by hot, dimly-lit booths and plush fabric seats. This hip local eatery has existed since 1926, plus it’s easy to see why.
The menu features a good amount of steak and seafood, therefore the wine and cocktail list can be as tasty since it is substantial. Don’t skip the jumbo diver scallops.
Things you can do in Newport Beach
No actual island, but rather a huge, luxury shopping centre with a great amount of outdoor areas to savor.
There are a variety of department stores, including Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s, the greatest Anthropologie I’ve ever seen, and over 30 dining choices to choose from.
If you’re getting ready for the night out, be sure to spend Drybar a visit for luxurious blowout that’ll make one feel such as for instance a star.
Newport Beach Film Festival
Talking about stars, each of them emerge in springtime, when the yearly Newport Beach movie Festival happens.
Now in its 18th 12 months, the event views some 350 films, including quick films and documentaries, being screened over the course of a glamorous and sun-soaked week.
Stars walk the red carpet and rub noses with local surfers, L.A. film-makers and worldwide distributors. It’s like Cannes (at the least, how I imagine Cannes become), but a lot more laid-back.
The 2017 event – which boasted the tagline ‘Go deeper’ – opened with Take Every Wave: The Laird Hamilton tale. The celebrity, in true southern Ca style, graced the red carpet in flip flops, which summed up the Newport Beach movie Festival in one tidy artistic!
Pedego Electrical Bikes
Not really a cyclist? Don’t stress – these bikes have a small electric motor which means you can increase hills with absolutely no exertion on your own part, which can be basically the only way you’ll get me personally travelling on two wheels!
Not only are the bikes a lot of fun to drive, but you can see several of the most gorgeous sights in Newport Beach for a self-guided tour.
Make sure you have a look at Corona del Mar, and end your biking jaunt at Tackle Box to refuel the return journey.
Lido Marina Village
If you didn’t get your retail treatment fix at Fashion Island, you’re bound discover exactly what you’re selecting at the waterfront Lido Marina Village.
From gorgeous candles and skincare from brands like Le Labo and Aesop to boutique fashion brands like Clare V. and aquatic Layer, there are numerous quirky design discovers here in the charming Lido Marina Village.
Duffy Boat Tour
Hands down the ultimate way to get yourself a feel for the waterways of Newport Beach, a Duffy Boat tour is definitely an absolute must-do while you’re around.
These small electric boats are named following the guy whom created them, and they’re used by an abundance of locals for around harbour, in addition to tourists buying enjoyable option to spend a day inside sun.
The ships chair 10 people, and you may bring a picnic (get one of these Market for a very tasty pre-made lunch). On the way you’ll spot Pirate Cove, where a scene of classic Bette Midler film Beaches was filmed, John Wayne’s old house and watercraft, and more luxury yachts than it is possible to wave a champagne flute at.
You don’t require any special licence to operate a vehicle a Duffy ship – it is basically a golf cart on water!
If you love yoga, and you also love being by the water, you need to decide to try SUP (remain true paddle) yoga, which is just what it appears like: yoga for a paddle board.
It’s an incredible core work out, and plenty of fun simultaneously. And when you can’t keep your balance, the sole consequence is really a refreshing plunge in magnificent water, therefore there’s no excuse to not test it out for.
I had a lesson with SUP Bliss, who provide the board while the instructor, and lessons occur appropriate by the Lighthouse Bayview Café, which means post-yoga meal is actually unavoidable.
It really is, most likely, the Ca way!
Pin this for later on!
Because of Newport Beach & business for generously welcoming me to explore Newport Beach and share my experiences here. All opinions are, naturally, my personal.
It took me a long time to realise this golden rule for travelling with kids. It’s the kind of rule that is so simple that I was kicking myself when I finally figured it out. I wish someone had told me about it sooner but it’s probably so obvious that other parents (you know, the…

3. No elbowing for onto a ski lift
There’s absolutely nothing worse than clanking around in heavy ski gear, holding cumbersome skis and poles, then having a throng of individuals jostling to get onto the ski lift at the same time.
